Resinated Sands

Produced at the unit of Descalvado (SP), the manufacture of resin-bonded sands is one of Jundu's specialties, with an operational unit dedicated to producing a wide range of resin-bonded sands, frac sand, and shell sand.

These products result from an additional step in the industrial quartz sand production process: drying and processing with synthetic resins. They are generally used in the foundry and oil and gas industries, especially in well fracturing operations.

Shell sand, or shell molding sand, is a quartz sand coated with thermosetting resins, usually phenolic. It is used in the shell molding process, a foundry technique that produces molds and cores with high dimensional accuracy and excellent surface finish.

Applications

Jundu resin-bonded sand is widely used in the foundry industry, especially in the following segments:

Automotive Foundry, Large Machinery, Consumer Goods

With molds for engine blocks, cylinder heads, crankcases and structural components, supports, gears, housings, household appliances and tools.

Oil and Gas Industry

Frac sands and gravel pack (resin-based or natural) act as propants in fracturing and stimulation operations of oil and/or gas wells.

Features

Jundu resin-bonded sand is widely used in the foundry industry, especially in the following segments:

Uniform and spherical grains

They promote the flow and compaction of sand in the mold.

Resin coating

It allows for rapid thermal curing and the formation of hard shells.

Low levels of fines and organic contaminants.

Essential for preventing defects in the cast part.

Advantages of Use

Molds with controlled thickness
Machining reduction
post-casting
